Mindfulness @ SAOL and SNUG

Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP)

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) has been taught and researched in clinical settings in the USA for over 20 years, and has proven to be of considerable benefit to patients suffering from chronic pain, generalised anxiety disorder, and cancer amongst other populations. Mindfulness training enables patients to access their own resources for responding in positive ways to chronic illness and has been shown to result in both subjective and objective improvements in health status.

Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) was developed at the University of Washington, by Professor Alan Marlatt, Director of the Addictive Behaviour Research Centre. He has been researching the effectiveness of mindfulness based therapy in relapse prevention for addictive behaviours for many years.

This is the course now being offered to Female participants by The SAOL Project and The SNUG Counselling Service.

Each session is approximately 2 1/2 hours and will start at 10.30 on the dates listed below. There will also be a half day of Mindfulness midway through the programme:

Full attendance is recommended for all participants for the duration of the programme in order to maximise benefits.Participants should note that the course is experiential in nature and participants will be required to do some practice in between the formal sessions mentioned above. Additional information and course material will be provided at the first session
