The Snug and Saol Projects join forces for Mindfulness Based Relaspe Prevention:
Mindfulness training enables participants to access their own resources for responding in positive ways. The programme also teaches effective skills to reduce stress, manage urges and cravings, and cultivate compassion and acceptance.
The primary goals of MBRP are:
- Develop awareness of personal triggers and habitual reactions, and learn ways to create a pause in this seemingly automatic process.
- Change our relationship to discomfort, learning to recognize challenging emotional and physical experiences and responding to them in skilful ways.
- Foster a non-judgmental, compassionate approach toward ourselves and our experiences.
- Build a lifestyle that supports both mindfulness practice and recovery.
In September 2014; The SAOL Project in collaboration with The SNUG Counselling service delivered their first Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention group for women in the Macro Centre. Many congratulations to the five women who graduated and a huge thank you to Erika Comerford for her support in making it happen and throughout the running of the programme. The lead facilitator for the group was our own Barry Costello - so many thanks to the women of the Snug for letting him in!
Feedback from the group:
‘I learned how to respond rather than react to people or situations I found difficult, by using the SOBER breathing space’
‘I have more confidence when meeting people. I am a lot calmer in myself and less stressed because I use meditation. Also I can see that I need people in my life.’
‘I got an awful lot out of it, I am happier and content in myself. It helped with my health complaint.’
‘The most valuable piece I found about the course was, that I am feeling better about myself’
‘I feel grounded again’
