Written in the first 8 eight weeks of 2021, the poems in this book represent the struggle with Covid and being a woman in the middle of a pandemic's 3rd lockdown. They are accompanied by some amazing photographs taken by Ray Hegarty with the CE group here in SAOL. They were taken just before the pandemic broke as part of a project but were joined with these poems as they now seem to represent the connection and support 'in the background' and socially distanced but nonetheless ever-present among the SAOL Sisters.
Paula Meehan, our mentor and Matron, who introduces the book and includes one of her own poems, writes of the finished book, "Congratulations on a moving & determined book. It is beautifully designed - very powerful photographs which give the production force & structure. And suggest the strength & sisterhood of women in a great device. Gorgeous work. and the poems are vivid on the parge - full of hearbreak, humour & healing".
